This device is a safe-operation support sensor designed to prevent operators from being caught in the rollers of a large printing machine or in a plastic extruder. The three-dimensional presence detector is also suitable as a non-contact presence switch for applications other than safety systems.
The detector circuitry incorporates DITECH’s proprietary impedance bridge system. The value of capacitance between the sensor and a roller with no object inside differs from the value if an operator’s hand is inside. The detector detects this change and issues an alarm or an emergency stop signal to the machine.
The three-dimensional presence detector differs from photoelectric sensor-based safety systems (e.g., area sensors) available on the market due to the presence of the following features:
Not actuated by insulating dielectric bodies, such as a film or a piece of rubber, entering the detection area
(Photoelectric sensor-based systems might be erroneously actuated by a film blocking the beam.)
Non-contact operation due to the detection of changes in capacitance of a three-dimensional space
Three types of capacitance detection system are used to cover various machines and detection areas.
